LilPinwheel has been over 25 years in making since li’l Harshita toyed with sketching and playing around with colors as a little girl.

At first, it was something to do on the side, while school took centre stage. “A way to have homework-life balance”, is how she puts it. By college the scales tipped entirely towards the arts. Pursuing a degree in graphic design was her chance to turn a pre-occupation into her occupation. Although she didn’t get her start in a dream job, she got her shot rather early on soon after college as she started picking up interesting illustration and graphic designs gigs like comic illustrations, patterns and one such was illustrating for a funded diaper brand. It was during her time freelancing for a diaper company that she realized the missing soul in the prints she encountered, prompting her to question their purpose and significance.

SERENDIPITY STRUCK!

And LilPinwheel was born...

With the birth of her first collection idea: 'Starry Nights’. Drawn to the idyllic charm and peaceful aura of the twinkling sky, and fueled by every child's inherent curiosity & love for stars, she let her imagination soar. As she looked up at the twinkling sky, she couldn't help but imagine a design filled with playful stars, happiness, and the love that glows in the night. The constellations themselves seemed to join in the joyful dance.
With her debut print, 'Starry Nights,' Harshita lovingly crafted her inaugural product—a whimsical baby wrap. This marked the genesis of Lil Pinwheel, a brand driven by the desire to nurture and celebrate the magic of childhood through captivating designs and soulful prints.

Finding Her Ikigai

Passion drives Harshita's dedication to illustrating the essence of childhood inspired by her surroundings and nature, fueled by her imagination, while her mission is to create designs that emanate soulfulness, inspired by nature, her travel and surroundings.  Through her various roles and heartfelt dedication, Harshita discovered her Ikigai—the profound sense of purpose and fulfillment—in Lil Pinwheel. It became the vessel through which she could channel her creativity, passion, and love for designing products that bring delight and meaning to the lives of children and parents.

While our brand is widely known for the poetic and fun prints, new dimensions have been added to the operation. New blood has brought in fresh ideas, varied experience, and additional expertise. In early 2022, Harshita’s husband, Vidhant entered the picture, with a colourful background, having worked in different industries.

He was at various points of his career an investment banker, potter, soap maker and now finallyy a cofounder.

Among other things, he adds a writers's touch to compliment the resident painter’s artistry masterly stroke by productising the magical prints and making sure they reach you :)

Yet, Lil Pinwheel is more than just a brand—it became a movement dedicated to preserving traditional and revered art form of hand block printing and uplifting skilled local artisans, this takes a center stage in our journey. By joining forces with these proficient craftsmen, Lil Pinwheel brings their mastery to the forefront, breathing life into each fabric creation with meticulous artistry and unwavering attention to detail.
The technique of hand block printing involves adept artisans intricately carving designs onto wooden blocks, which are then meticulously printed onto the fabric by hand. This laborious process gives birth to remarkable and exquisite patterns which are one of a kind, ensuring that every Lil Pinwheel product becomes a true masterpiece. Moreover, the use of natural AZO free dyes further reflects the brand's unwavering commitment to sustainable practices and the reduction of environmental impact.
